Getting More from MySleepDash™: Understanding Your CPAP Data, Comfort Settings & More

Image

If you use a Transcend Micro or Micro 510, MySleepDash™ gives you an easy way to view your CPAP usage, better understand your therapy data, adjust supported comfort settings and access reports right from your phone.

But before we dive in, there’s one important thing to know:

You do not need MySleepDash to use your Transcend CPAP.

Your Transcend Micro or Micro 510 works independently from the app and will deliver your prescribed therapy whether or not your phone is nearby, Bluetooth is connected or the app is open.

Think of MySleepDash as an optional companion to your CPAP. It gives you another way to see information from your device and personalize certain comfort features, but it is not required for your CPAP to work.

Here are some helpful tips for getting the most out of MySleepDash if you choose to use it.

Start by Syncing Your Device

Your Transcend CPAP stores your therapy information on the device, so your phone does not need to be next to you while you sleep.

When you want to see your latest information in MySleepDash, make sure your Transcend CPAP is plugged in and powered on. Then open MySleepDash and go to:

My Account → Sync Data with Device

Many users find it easiest to make syncing part of their morning routine.

And if you forget? That’s okay. Your CPAP still provided therapy and stored your data. You can sync it later.

Understanding the Numbers in MySleepDash

Once your device is synced, your dashboard provides a snapshot of your CPAP usage and therapy information.

Here’s what some of the most common numbers mean.

MySleepScore™

Think of MySleepScore as a quick snapshot of your CPAP use. Your score ranges from 0–100 and takes several factors into account, including how long you used your CPAP, mask leak and how often your mask was removed.

Rather than focusing too much on a single night, pay attention to patterns over time. Trends can often provide a more useful picture of your CPAP use.

Usage Hours

This is simply the amount of time you used your CPAP. Usage is also the biggest contributor to your MySleepScore.

Your CPAP can only provide therapy while you're wearing it, so consistent use is important.

Mask Leak

A little airflow from your mask is completely normal. CPAP masks are designed with vents that allow exhaled air to escape.

Your leak information can help identify airflow escaping beyond what is expected. If you're consistently seeing higher leak numbers, check that your mask is positioned correctly and that your hose, HME and other connections are securely attached.

Mask On/Off

This tracks interruptions when your mask is removed and replaced.

Getting up during the night isn't necessarily a problem. But if your mask is being removed frequently, that can help explain changes in your MySleepScore or usage information.

AHI — Apnea-Hypopnea Index

AHI stands for Apnea-Hypopnea Index. In simple terms, it represents the average number of breathing events detected per hour.

An AHI below 5 is generally considered within the normal range. If you're consistently seeing an AHI above 5 while using your CPAP, talk with your healthcare provider rather than changing your prescribed therapy settings yourself.

Why Doesn't My Transcend AHI Exactly Match My Bedside CPAP?

This is a question that can come up when someone uses a Transcend CPAP for travel and a different CPAP at home.

It is normal for the numbers from two different CPAP devices to be slightly different.

Here's an easy way to think about it:

Imagine two people counting cars driving down a busy road. One person may count only cars that completely pass a certain point. The other may use a slightly different rule for when a car gets counted. They're both watching the same traffic, but they may finish with slightly different totals.

CPAP devices can work in a similar way.

Different manufacturers may use different algorithms, which are simply the mathematical rules the device uses to interpret the information it collects while you sleep.

Those mathematical rules can differ slightly in how they identify, calculate and report things like breathing events, leak and pressure.

So if your bedside CPAP reports an AHI of 2.8 and your Transcend reports 3.4, for example, that doesn't automatically mean something is wrong with either device. You shouldn't expect the numbers from two different CPAP brands or models to match exactly.

It's more helpful to look at your results over time rather than comparing individual numbers from one machine directly against another.

If you notice a significant or consistent change in your therapy data, or have concerns about how you're feeling, talk with your healthcare provider.

Pressure

Your pressure information shows the therapy pressure delivered by your CPAP.

If you're using your Transcend in Auto CPAP mode, the device automatically adjusts pressure within your prescribed range based on your therapy needs throughout the night.

Your prescribed pressure settings are determined by your healthcare provider. If you have questions about your pressure or therapy data, talk with your provider before making changes to your therapy.

Personalize Your Comfort Settings

MySleepDash isn't only for viewing data. You can also use it to personalize supported comfort features on your Transcend Micro or Micro 510.

Open Settings in MySleepDash to see the options available for your device.

GentleRise™ Ramp

Does the airflow feel like a lot when you first put on your mask?

GentleRise is designed to make the transition into therapy more comfortable. Instead of immediately beginning at your full therapy pressure, GentleRise starts at a lower pressure and gradually increases it.

This can be helpful if you have trouble relaxing or falling asleep when therapy first begins.

Already comfortable with the airflow? You may prefer less ramp or no ramp at all.

Helpful tip: If you wake up during the night and remove your mask, restarting therapy may restart the ramp feature, giving you gentler airflow again while you settle back in.

AirRelief™

If you sometimes feel like you're breathing against the airflow when you exhale, AirRelief can help make exhaling feel more comfortable by temporarily reducing pressure as you breathe out.

You can choose from four settings:

OFF — No pressure relief
1 — Light pressure relief
2 — Moderate pressure relief
3 — Maximum pressure relief

If exhaling against the airflow feels uncomfortable, try the available AirRelief settings to find the option that feels most comfortable for you.

Comfort Settings Are Different from Therapy Settings

This is an important distinction.

Features like GentleRise and AirRelief are comfort settings. They allow you to personalize how therapy feels.

Your prescribed therapy pressure settings are different. Those settings are based on your prescription and cannot be changed through the patient app.

Need a Compliance Report? It's Right in the App.

If you need proof of CPAP usage for your healthcare provider, insurance company, DOT requirement or another reason, MySleepDash makes it easy to access a report.

Go to Reports, choose the date range you need and select the Share or Download icon.

You can save the report as a PDF on your phone or share it with your healthcare provider.

What If I Sleep More Than Once During the Day?

MySleepDash can combine multiple therapy sessions within the reporting period.

For example, if you use your CPAP for three separate three-hour sessions within the same 24-hour view, MySleepDash may show 9 total hours of usage.

So if the usage number doesn't match the length of your most recent sleep session, multiple sessions may be the reason.

Having Trouble Syncing?

Remember, a syncing problem does not mean your CPAP isn't working. The app connection and your CPAP therapy are separate.

If your therapy data isn't appearing in MySleepDash, start with these quick checks:

  • Make sure your CPAP is plugged in and powered on.

  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.

  • Check that the Bluetooth light on your CPAP is blue.

  • Make sure your phone has a Wi-Fi or cellular connection.

  • Confirm that the serial number in MySleepDash matches the serial number on your CPAP.

  • Close and reopen MySleepDash and try syncing again.

If you're still having trouble connecting, press and hold the Bluetooth button on your CPAP for 5+ seconds until the yellow light flashes.

Then open your phone's Bluetooth settings, locate your CPAP's serial number and select Forget Device or Unpair.

Return to MySleepDash and try syncing again.

Traveling Without Wi-Fi? Your CPAP Still Works.

One of the most important things to remember when traveling is that your Transcend CPAP does not need Wi-Fi, cellular service or the MySleepDash app to provide your prescribed therapy.

Your CPAP operates independently and stores therapy information on the device.

That means you can use your Transcend in a hotel, RV, campsite or anywhere else you may not have reliable internet access.

When you're ready to view your information in MySleepDash, connect your phone to Wi-Fi or cellular data and sync your device.

Keep MySleepDash Updated

We're continuing to improve the MySleepDash experience, including Bluetooth connectivity, syncing, performance and therapy data visibility.

Keeping the latest version of the app installed helps ensure you have access to the newest improvements.

MySleepDash Is There When You Want It

Your Transcend CPAP is designed to deliver your prescribed therapy on its own. MySleepDash is optional — it's there when you want additional information, reports or access to supported comfort settings.

And remember that CPAP devices from different manufacturers don't necessarily calculate and report therapy information in exactly the same way. Small differences between the numbers shown by your Transcend and another CPAP device can be expected.

The most useful information often comes from looking at your overall trends over time, rather than comparing a single night's number from one machine with a single night's number from another.

Have questions about your therapy or notice a significant change in your results? Talk with your healthcare provider.
