How Long Does It Take for CPAP Therapy to Work?

You’ve dealt with obstructive sleep apnea for long enough. Now, you’ve finally got the solution prescribed to you in the form of a CPAP machine. It’s no secret: CPAP machines work. When used consistently, most people find that CPAP machine alleviate most (if not all) of the negative effects of their sleep apnea. But how long does it take to work? Will a CPAP machine immediately eliminate the problems you are having with obstructive sleep apnea?

How Long Until Your Symptoms Get Better?

It should be said that every person with sleep apnea is different. There are different severities, and people have different tolerance levels getting used to using a CPAP machine. The results will vary from person to person, and your experience may be different from anyone else.

However, CPAP machines are known to be effective quite quickly. Some people feel better after the first night that they use them. Others find that they take a week or two to get used to using the CPAP therapy. This is dependent upon a few factors, one of which is how much your sleep apnea was affecting your sleep.

What you will find, in general, is that the longer you use your CPAP machine, the better you will feel throughout the day. As you continue to get better quality sleep using your CPAP machine, you may notice that you have better energy and focus during the day.

What Studies Show

There has been plenty of research conducted on the use of CPAP machines. Studies have shown that the longer a CPAP machine is used, the better the results will be.

Imagine not sleeping well for several nights in a row. You feel tired, and your body will not function as well. Now imagine getting one great night’s sleep after not sleeping well for a week. You may feel better after that one night, but you will likely still feel groggy because, although you got a full 8 hours, your body is still trying to recover from all the sleep you lost in the nights before. This is how your journey to better sleep health can feel when using your CPAP machine. You may feel better after one day; you may feel better after three or four.

You just need to stick with your CPAP therapy and use your machine every night. Only then will you regain your energy and finally catch up on the sleep you’ve been missing.
